Honeymoon Revealed…

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t the honeymoon one of the best parts of planning a wedding?

Once the decisions on venue, music, cakes and the like were made, I must admit my mind immediately went to the honeymoon. Where would we go?! This was our opportunity to start our married life in a unique and exciting place.

Everyone has different thoughts on a honeymoon. Some couples just want to relax and sit on a beach, having been pretty burnt out by the wedding process in general. Others choose to take the newly coined “mini-moon” and save their bigger destination for a little longer after the wedding to be able to plan it properly.

Max and I went back and forth on whether to go right away or not, and after it was decided that we would leave 2 days after our wedding, the fun part began…picking the destination. Our only criteria was somewhere neither of us had been before and somewhere we could explore and partake in adventurous things – neither one of us can sit still for very long!

And the winner is…

South Africa & Mauritius!

Starting in Cape Town, we will spend four days hiking Table Mountain, visiting Robben Island and Boulder’s Beach, touring the Cape Winelands and taking in the city everyone seems to love!

From there, we continue onto Kruger National Park for three days where our days will be filled with safaris in one of the quintessential African safari destinations. We are hoping to view the Big 5 and take part in some sundowners.

Rounding out our city break and adventurous safari days, is 5 days in Mauritius. In contrast to the speed of Cape Town and Kruger, Mauritius will be relaxing. There will be no itinerary and hopefully lots of sunshine.

Any suggestions from those of you who have been there? Now that it is booked, we have started doing research and would love recommendations!

Where did you go (or would you go) on your honeymoon?

  2. What a fabulous itinerary. If you have any extra time in Cape Town, we loved Kirstenbosch Gardens. Quite old. Quite majestic. Have a great honeymoon no matter what you do!

Oh, my beautiful adventurous girl! Why am I not surprised. You two are so suited for each other. What a lucky day you two met. You warm my heart. Somewhere in your youth or childhood, you must have done something good.

I love you both more than you will ever know.

That sounds utterly spectacular and then some! Pea green with envy over here 🙂 That is definitely an itinerary I’d love to replicate myself sometime so in the meantime I’ll live vicariously through your travels.

Paris & Belgium were my honeymoon locales although I think the Big 5 and an island in the Indian Ocean will always beat just about anything 🙂

    • Thanks, Julie! Paris & Belgium are not bad alternatives either! Belgium is on my ever-growing list of places to explore!
